Monster
from the bay Mukhor (The Baikal monster)
The
first evidences about the discovery of a big inhabitant of the bay Mukhor,
the island Olkhon and the strait Maloe Sea appeared at the beginning of
the 20th century.
In 1905 the merchant of the first guild Danila Ukhvatov took the cattle
by ship across the bay Muchor to the island Olkhon. One of the horses
because of the strong rolling fell overboard. People tried to take the
animal out the water. But unknown force pulled the horse to the bottom.
In some minutes the parts and head of the horse surfaced of the water.
The nearest cape of the island from this place is called since then „the
head of the horse".
After the second world war the Japanese prisoners of war working at the
mine near the village Chernorud began to notice people's disappearance.
The dead bodies of the Japanese teared apart were found in some days at
the bay shore.
That fact is interesting that native people of the Baikal (Buryats) considered
the bay Mukhor is holy. And it is one of the ancient places where shamanism
appeared. When talking to a person you shouldn't mention this place. You
shouldn't look at the bay in the afternoon. Once a year when the darkest
and moonless night was native people piled game, meat of cattle and fish
on the rafts and set it in motion on the bay. Thus they paid tribute to
their deity. We can only guess in which form was this deity robed. A long
time the bay shores were lonely. That explains the fact of the preservation
of virgin and primary nature.
Today the existence of a big creature looking like a log with cones is
confirmed in the bay. How native people confirm this monster appear on
the water surface in the night and utters the typical sibilant sounds
which turn into the gurgling. Exactly by these circumstances the cattle's
loss coming to watering-place is noted. Native fishermen tell us that
of late people going to fish were missing without leaving a trace and
then their dead bodies teared to pieces were found. It is clear because
this monster has the unusual large proportions.
The captain of the fishing ship Dmitri Vedernikov confirms it. During
one of the trips the crew felt a strong rolling with typical sibilant
sounds and gurgling. Although the absolute calm was on the sea. People
gained the impression that a huge animal carded its back by the keel of
the ship.
What is it - myth or reality? Which type of alive creatures does the Baikal
inhabitant belong to? Maybe it is an alien creature? How the famous scientist
the leading specialist of study the Baikal fauna doctor Semonov confirms
all these events can have the real basis. Most likely the Mukhor monster
belongs to the surviving and still unexplored species of the amphibious
reptiles. This monster remind by appearance of something between a crocodile
and an ancient ichthyosaurus. They are carnivorous that is predators.
The presence of hot sources on the lake bottom gives a shelter to this
creature in winter when the Baikal is covered by ice.
Particular geographical location of the bay Mukhor permits the water to
warm up in July and August to +23?C. Everybody knows that the largest
predatory fishes (pike and perch) live in this bay. The large proportions
of fish in turn attract the Mukhor inhabitant who feeds on fish and mammal
in summer and in winter he can feed on the Baikal seal.
Dear travellers, maybe only you can reveal the secret of the Baikal monster
and tell the whole world about it.
